Photography chose me, it was a compulsion to express feelings
through a tangible form. Thus every
image speaks of a personal connection. Some
faces made a deep impact to make a picture. Landscapes of certain places that made relinquish discrete
identity and be engulfed in an ‘oceanic feeling’ which very similarly like Freud said is the equivalent of religious belief. It is not difficult to comprehend why so
many sacred sites of various faith and religion abound the lofty Himalayan
range. It is in India, Nepal and Tibet that most of the 8,000 meters peaks are located. The sheer towering rock walls covered with perennial snow fills the vision. In the pre-dawn or post
dusk light the snow mantle is in muted shades of blue and gray only to change
to a golden luminescence or bask in strawberry light momentarily. In this
fleeting time of eternal drama, there is a sense of connecting with the supreme being.
While traveling through some parts of the Tibetan Plateau which experiences one of the harshest environments on earth, where the landscape is both stunningly beautiful and frightfully arduous with thin little air making the lungs ache, heat and rain bearing down upon the earth, often the vision is further treated with the dazzling architecture of the Himalayan Kingdom. Most of the castles, monasteries or ruins makes an imposing spectacle, which can be seen from far away. There is almost an other worldly mystery to them, precariously positioned on nearly vertical cliff face. Generally the climb is high leaving one feeling breathless but the view from there is breathtaking. Some of these temples are a treasure house of many art forms unique to the Himalayan region dating back hundreds of years; statues, paintings, frescoes, murals, fabrics, metal and wood carvings, ritual objects…
Standing in the howling wind on the terrains of the Himalayas and Trans-Himalaya for the very first time a deep soul connection was established. The fragrance of Tibetan Buddhism permeated deep within and it was impossible to remain unmoved, to not passionately fall in love with a place which seemed far beyond the confines of petty human world, a land only befitting to be the abode of the divine. A phenomena beyond the wildest dreams of most who have not had the chance to experience this exquisite and excruciating grandeur.
The scope of being able to see and photograph a bird or animal, a tiny insect or even a small flower in wilderness is an unique experience. It is a time to deeply appreciate all nature's beauty and respect the grand spectacle. Just as well once again remember the dark shadows of encroachment of forest and marsh habitat for the sake of changes and development looming large, threatening their very existence.
A fraction of the imagery from the personal collection has been presented here, eventually more will be added. There is a hope that lot many journeys would be made, many more miles would be traveled and many more photographs would be made in turn to be added on to this gallery.
Thank you for visiting.
